Benefits of Wheelchair Vans
Wheelchair Vans
The special people, who are greatly dependent on the wheelchairs, for their mobility problems, sprouting from the injuries, wounds, fractures, disabilities or just even the frailty, love to carry their wheelchairs along, while traveling to the outstation or the far flung places. Normally, the wheelchairs are designed to cater the mobility needs of these special people, mostly indoor, or the limited distances. Therefore, traveling on the wheelchairs over the longer distances is either a mere dream or a foolish idea. The only option is of carrying the wheelchairs on some vehicle. All the users do not use the folding wheelchairs, which provide an easy portability to different places. Moreover, the special people may prefer to keep on sitting on their wheelchairs and may like that the vehicle they intend traveling in, must accommodate them, while they are riding their chairs. This option will surely require little help from others, while mounting and dismounting the vehicle. Moreover, it would facilitate the riders, by saving them from the hassle of folding the dismounting from the chair, folding it and again, after once they have traveled to the destination, undoing all the effort previously done. To avoid this all, surely, the users have the option of the wheelchair vans, especially designed to accommodate both the wheelchair and the rider.
These wheelchair vans have a larger space, as compared to the other vehicles, which can very rarely do this job. A wheelchair van generally has a larger body, with no seats installed inside, thus providing a greater accommodation capacity for the wheelchairs. To stop the wheelchair from moving to and fro, or right or left, a special feature may be required on the floor of the van that fixes the wheelchair, once it is mounted on the van. Mounting the wheelchair on a van is again a tricky affair that involves employment of technique and the latest apparatus like wheelchair lifts. These wheelchair lifts are generally capable enough to hold the vehicle, lift it to raise it to the level of the floor of the van and to slide or move the wheelchair inside the van. While dismounting, the complete process is repeated, though in the reverse and inverse order. In the absence of these wheelchair lifts, help can be sought from the ramps, especially designed for this purpose. The wheelchair can easily be slid onto the ramp to make an entry into, or an exit out of the van. However, the upper level of the ramps must be of the same height, as that of the floor of the van.
In the absence of the wheelchair van, a normal mini van can also be easily modified into a wheelchair van. For this purpose, the back seats of the van need to be removed to allow for the more space, required to accommodate the wheelchair. Modified vans are also available in the market, but before purchasing these, one needs to consider and evaluate the spaciousness and facility aspects. The used wheelchair vans are also available in the market at cheaper rates, suiting the needs of the users, with lesser financial strength. However, the aspect of the predicted remaining life needs a serious consideration.
