Power Wheelchairs Information

Power Wheelchairs

Wheelchair is more suitable option than being dependent on someone else for maneuverability. Previous versions were the old ones, manually operated, which may bother the user to a great extent and cost a lot of physical strife to move. But, now the times have changed, as we have the new product, the power wheelchair to facilitate the user to the optimum level. The power wheelchair moves with the battery or the electric power thus reducing your burden and facilitating your mobility.

A power wheelchair is heavier than the manually operated wheelchairs, due to the multiple, but quite justified reasons. As, it has to sustain the load of batteries, motors or the small engines; therefore the structure is required to be stronger and preferably metallic. A normal power wheelchair is normally operated with the battery power. As, with the growing times, a lot of sophistication has been involved in the wheelchair manufacturing, therefore, the users now can have the wheelchairs with standard batteries, a joystick controller, or a microprocessor controlled gyroscopic circuitry, which enables the chair to rise on two wheels!

The latest power wheelchair today is an iBOT wheelchair. This technology enables the user to move the chair either on two or four wheels. Furthermore, a wheelchair equipped with iBOT technology enables the very special user to make the miracles like climbing up the stairs, bumping up the hurdles and elevating the passenger seat to a certain level to reach the higher shelf etc. It helps in compensating for the sudden shift of weight, as well.

Prices are the feature mostly our decisions depend upon. Depending upon the level of sophistication, the price of these power wheelchairs also tends to vary (generally from 1900-300 US dollars); the most sophisticated surely being the most expensive one. Therefore before purchasing a power wheelchair, great caution is to be observed, keeping in view the affordability aspect, as a nice combination; of the review of the actual needs of the user coupled with the financial strength is therefore required.

A common user needs to have little but essential knowledge about the technological features of these power wheelchairs, as his choice of the goods is mostly dependent on the needs, which he seeks to satisfy through these. Power wheelchairs are available in the market in different shapes, designs and with different useful technological features. Rear Wheel Drive Power Wheelchairs are perhaps the most commonly used wheelchairs. The rear wheel drive method quickens the speed of a wheelchair, but slows down its turning process. Mid Wheel Drive Power Wheelchairs is another type. These power wheelchairs are considered the best, as far as turning aspect is concerned. However, this type of the power wheelchairs can be a little unsteady at the starting or the stopping phase. Generally, this type of the power wheelchairs are not considered good for uneven surfaces, due to their faltering nature at the start and destination, as it can lead to the falling down of these power wheelchairs, thus hurting the user to a reasonable extent. Front Wheel Drive Wheelchairs are though a little slower than the Rear Wheel Drive Chairs, yet their good turning capability is their distinguished merit, which gains popularity amongst the users.
