Mobility Scooters
Taking care of the needs of the very special members of the society, whose needs are more than a common man, yet thair self-respect bars them from using the traditional wheelchairs, which have become a recognized symbol of dependence, the manufacturers have made a mobility scooter. This is a great gift for those, who are weakened by the old age or the menacing ailments.
Mobility scooters are normally leectricity powered. One or two batteries fixed in it fulfill its power needs. These keep on being charged during the travelling. Otherwise, these can be charged through a separate battery charger unitfrom standard electric outlet. We can very easily find the gasoline powered scooters as well, but oeing to the expense involved, these are quickly being replaced by the electricity powered scooters.
The mobility scooters are either front wheel drive (FD) or rear wheel drive (RD) The FD is usually a smaller machine and is best for using indoors. It has a limited speed option and rider weight capacity, i.e. generally upto 250 pounds maximum. On the other ahnd, the RD scooters are used both indoors and outdoors. These have a better rider weight capacity of 350 pounds. A heavy duty RD is yet better, being capable of carrying up to 500 pounds.
A mobility scooter is a wonderful devicve with a seat over two rear wheels, a flat area for the feet, and handlebars in front to turn and one or two steerable wheels. It has an adjustable seat that may swivel to allow access when the front is blocked by the handlebars. It normally has a tiller, the steering column, which is centrally located at the front of the scooter, with forward/reverse directions and speed controls. Therefore, the direction can be controlled by thumb paddles, finger controls, or a switch. All this apparatus enables the rider to ride freely and smoothly, without being disturbed by the own weeknesses or the technological failures.
The mobility scooters are avialable in wide range of models. These include tiny folding travelling scooters and heavy duty bariatric scooters etc. These are the best partners for the people with lacking the stamina or arm flexibility necessary to run a normal wheelchair. It is equally useful for the people with coronary lungs or arthritis problem, who require a support while moving, yet are allergic of the dependence on others or the traditional wheelchairs. The people with the minor disabilities, who still can stand or walk a little without a torso support and control the steering tiller, are the best beneficiaries of this device. These are easier to operate and move than a traditional wheelchair, as swivelling the seat of an electric scooter is generally easier than moving the foot supports on most conventional wheelchairs. One perhaps, the strongest reason of people being attracted to these scooters is their appearance, i.e. exactly different from the traditional wheelchairs that may be burden on the ego of the respected individuals. Moreover, these are cheaper than the traditional electric wheelchairs.
Story may be incomplete without the discussion of the few drawbacks of these scooters, such as the extra length, restricting the mobility in very closed spaces, shape requiring an upright posture and low ground clearance ability, yet the charm remains there with the acknowledgement of the fact that the newer ones are dealing with these problems and now we have different posture options available in the modern versions. |
